Fillet Weld Formula. Notes:
- Text book uses default Factor of Safety = 3. This is arbitrary, and codes could specify a higher or lower figure. Book uses electrode strength rating of 410 MPa, so Allowable Stress = 410/3 = 136MPa.
- Welds are often (usually) in shear stress, but we assume the same regardless of loading in shear or tension.
- The 0.707 factor comes from the 45o triangle. This is same for all fillet welds (assume 45o).
